Michael Edward Blevins

October 25, 1950 — October 31, 2024

Hilton Head Island

Michael Edward Blevins, 74, of Moss Creek, Hilton Head Island, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Thursday, October 31, 2024. Throughout his battle with cancer, Mike would never complain.

Mike was a  devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife Helen F. (Puskar) Blevins. He was the proud father and father-in-law to Ashley James and Greg James of Moss Creek; his greatest joy was to be the grandfather of his grandson, Wesley James.

He is also survived by his sisters Charlotte Jane (the late Edward W.Kennen) and Karen Sue Blevins, both of Wheeling, WV. He will also be missed by his nieces and nephews: Edward Kennen Jr, Scott Kennen, Paula Fedorke, Julie Dobzynski, Lisa Kolibash, and Michael Ross.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents Earl E. Blevins and Julia Ann (Budai) Blevins Wiesner, as well as his stepfather, Robert E. Wiesner.

Mike was born on October 25, 1950 in Wheeling, WV. After attending West Liberty University, he started his career in the mining industry.  Throughout his career of over 40 years, Mike held Safety Management positions in several coal companies, including Consolidation Coal Company, CONSOL Energy, PinnOak Resources, and Cleveland-Cliffs.

Mike lived his life according to two principles: the belief that showing respect to others is the first step in earning respect, and a strong desire to leave this life having made it a little better for those around him.

He loved living in Moss Creek and was the founder and President of Moss Creek “Friends of the Equestrian Center.” He embraced this social group and led its members in their efforts to provide love and support to those with special needs through equine therapy. His joy was knowing that this organization grew to help underwrite therapeutic riding for children and adults with physical, mental, emotional, and social challenges.

Mike’s wish was for any charitable contributions to be made to the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry (Moss Creek Stables EAP) so people with disabilities may continue to be helped with equine therapeutic classes.
