Michael J. James

Michael "Hobo" Joseph James Jr. passed away at his home on November 12 at the age of 77. Michael was predeceased by his parents Michael J. and Julia Patricia (Kissane) James, and his brothers Thomas and John James. He is survived by his wife Marie (Ruppert) James of 39 years. They were married in New York on June 5, 1976. Michael is lovingly remembered by his sister Julia Patricia (James) Connolly of Ridgewood New Jersey and 18 nieces and nephews He was born in New York, NY and raised in the Bronx, NY. He graduated from Mount St. Michael Academy in1955 and went on to earn a Bachelor's degree from Fairfield University in 1959. He worked at various sales positions and retired from Nynex in 1994. Michael was most at home when he was with people. He was very proud of his Irish heritage and His gift of hospitality was apparent to all who met him. He was a life member of the New York Athletic Club and participated in many interclub groups including the Huckleberry Indians, Quarter Century Club and Trapshooting. He managed the Trapshooting Club for several years and was an excellent shot winning many trophies. He was also Commander of the New York Athletic Club American Legion Post #754. Upon retiring to Bluffton he devoted time to playing golf and was a member of the Rose Hill Men's Golf Association. He will be remembered for his generous spirit and concern for others. He was a member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church and a Charter member of the Bishop Lynch Chapter of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Visitation will take place on November 17, 2015 at Saul's Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Rd., Bluffton, SC with a service at 6:30 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St Gregory the Great on November 18th2015 at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Tidewater Hospice 10 Buckingham Plantation Drive, Bluffton SC. Visitation will take place on November 17, 2015 from 5 til 7 pm at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Rd., Bluffton, SC with a service at 6:30 pm. Please send memorial gifts to Tidewater Hospice in memory of Michael J. James, Jr. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St Gregory the Great, 333 Fording Island Road, Bluffton November 18th 2015 at 10:30 AM.
