Michael "Leigh" Nalley

Michael Leigh Nalley, known to family and friends as Leigh passed away peacefully at home at age 80 on October 4, 2026.

Leigh was born February 14, 1946 in Washington, D. C. He was the son of the late Marie and Bob Nalley.

Raised in Southern Maryland, Leigh graduated from Gonzaga High School in Washington, D.C. He also earned a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Maryland and a Master's Degree from the George Washington University. Leigh spent the majority of his work career at the U S Department of Agriculture and retired as Assistant Administrator in the Rural Development Service. For nine years after his father's death, Leigh and his brother Chris managed the family rental property business.

Leigh loved golf, coin collecting, being on the water and Maryland seafood. His favorite hobby was raising and loving his many dogs, especially Golden Retrievers.

Leigh will be deeply missed.

Leigh married the love of his life, Martha Jean Proctor, in 1976 and she made his life perfect. Martha brought her son Chris Mellott to the marriage and Leigh was so proud of his stepson.

Leigh was predeceased by his parents, brothers Patrick Dennis and the Honorable Chris Nalley and grandson Brenden C. Mellott.

Leigh is survived by his wife of 50 years, Martha, stepson Chris Mellott and granddaughter Lindsay Mellott. Also survived by nephew Rees Nalley (Kiera), niece Dorothea (Austin) and niece Rebecca Finn.
