MGySgt. Michael Lowell McClaskey, USMC, Retired, 60, father of two daughters and a step-son, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, June 30 th , 2020.
Michael was born August 1959, son of the late Larry Lowell McClaskey and late Lucille McClaskey. He joined the United States Marine Corps in March 1979, proudly serving his country with honor for over 30 years, when he retired, in March 2010. During his time in the military, he received multiple medals, ribbons and stars. He also served in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He always pointed out that his time and experience in the Marines taught him the value of discipline, teamwork, leadership and investing in causes larger than himself. He was looked up to and respected by many.
A generous, compassionate and selfless man, Michael regularly donated his time and money to a variety of charitable organizations over the years. He volunteered his time with special needs children, worked with local charities and donated to causes, where he could make a difference. He was a comedian at heart, always making people laugh. Everyone enjoyed and wanted his company. He was one of those guys you just knew was always up to something. An avid world traveler and explorer, Michael traveled the U.S and abroad, learning and enjoying different cultures, nature/landscapes, ethnic foods, recreation and more. He taught his children from an early age, not only about the concept of volunteerism and caring for the less fortunate, but also, his same love of travel/exploration, freedom and adventure for the great outdoors, nature, the environment, other countries and cultures, etc. Timeless gifts and memories, they will forever hold in their hearts.
Michael is survived by his two daughters, Amber Lowell (Paul) of Fallbrook, CA, Briana McClaskey (Kate) of Beaufort, SC and step-son, Jaime Torres (Yesenia) of Bellflower, CA, as well as several grandchildren who adored him.
