Bluffton, South Carolina, July 1, 2022 – Michele Anise Engler, 73, wife of Captain James (Jim) Engler, US Navy (retired), died in her home on July 1, 2022. She and Jim had celebrated their 44 th wedding anniversary on May 23 rd , and just a few days later she was diagnosed with terminal cancer. She accepted the diagnosis with incredible grace and courage. At the time of her death, her husband, daughter, granddaughter, and little Lola, her beloved Maltese were all at her bedside, surrounding her with love.
Michele was born April 23, 1949, in Pensacola FL, the daughter of Don and Helene Marsh. Her father and husband were both US Navy pilots, so Michele traveled extensively throughout her life, living in Florida, Hawaii, Washington state, Virginia, South Carolina, and traveling the Far East.
She graduated from Oak Harbor High School in Washington state, in 1967. Michele also attended the University of Washington in Seattle, majoring in fashion and interior design. Design became her passion. She started her own design business called Homemakers, with a close friend, and they spent years helping others “turn their houses into homes.”
She absolutely loved all animals, especially dogs, but at various times in her life also was mom to cats, and even a squirrel (named Earl of course!) Although by nature a reserved person, Michele treasured her friends, and was a great friend. She loved giving gifts more than receiving them. She also loved gardening, a certain soap opera, and Mahjong.
Michele is survived in addition to her husband, by her daughter Aimee, and grandkids Raven and RJ. She was an only child.
Honoring her wishes, there will not be a formal service. In lieu of flowers, we ask that contributions go to your favorite pet charity.
