Mildred Ellen Brabham Hutson, 87, of Hardeeville, SC passed away peacefully on May 12, 2024. Born March 17, 1937 in Red Dam, Mildred was a life-long resident of the lowcountry and fondly called Hardeeville home, where she resided with the love of her life, Harry “JuJu” Hutson, Jr. (1924-2014). Married for over 59 years, her most meaningful roles in life were devoted wife, mother to her two children, and grandmother.
Mildred retired after 32 years in the Jasper County School System where she worked in food services. She was also a nutritional coach, educator, and inspirational lecturer for Weight Watchers. Mildred was a faithful member of Hardeeville Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and could always be found in the social hall, volunteering at numerous church and community events.
Mildred loved to laugh, cook, and spend time with friends and family, especially over games of canasta and the occasional late-night trip to Shoney’s for a hot fudge cake. In the summertime, she loved baseball – a devoted and passionate fan of the Atlanta Braves. Mildred will be remembered for her kind smile, generous care and joy she brought to those around her.
In addition to her late husband JuJu, Mildred is preceded in death by her parents Julius H. Brabham and Etta Cooler Brabham, sister Mary “Midge” Carson, and brother Julius “Jimmy” Brabham. She is survived by her daughter Lorna Hutson Pilgreen (John), son Harry Simon Hutson, III, grandchild Ellen Vaz, and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 11am at Purrysburg Cemetery in Hardeeville. Family will receive friends beginning at 10:30am. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, a gift be made to Hardeeville Baptist Church.
