Mildred de La Penha (Billie), 87 of Bluffton, SC died Sunday, August 12, 2012 at the Fraser Health Center surrounded by loved ones. She died on the birthday of her beloved husband Daniel who predeceased her just eighteen weeks ago.She is survived by her two devoted daughters Jeanne Van Wicklen of Bluffton, SC and Diane de La Penha Pernick of Columbia, MD; granddaughter Sarah de La Penha Pernick of Washington, DC and grandson Andrew Simon Van Wicklen and his wife Rachale Mae Van Wicklen of Jacksonville, FL; and son-in-law Robert Pernick of Columbia, MD.Billie was born in Savannah, Georgia on July 26, 1925. As a young working woman she met a handsome soldier named Daniel returning from World War II military service in Europe on a blind date. It was love at first sight. They were soon married and formed an inseparable team for the next 63 years. At the time they met, Daniel was pursuing an undergraduate degree in Chemistry at the University of Georgia. Upon completion of this undergraduate degree, the happy couple moved to Augusta, Georgia where Daniel continued his studies at the Medical College of Georgia.
