Myrtle Geneva Rowell Smith

June 6, 1916 — April 11, 2017

Myrtle Geneva Rowell Smith, 100, of Early Branch, SC and widow of James S. (Blake) Smith passed away on April 11, 2017 at her home in the Grays Community. Mrs. Smith was born in Ridgeland, SC on June 6, 1916 to the late Robert G. Rowell and Edna Rosalee Robinson Rowell. She was a homemaker, former employee of Holiday Wear Manufacturing Company and a member Great Swamp Baptist Church. During World War II Mrs. Smith cooked food for the US Armed Forces in containers furnished by the government. The government replaced her wood stove with a gas fired stove. Her passion was sewing and she made quilts for new born babies in the community. She is survived by her sons, James Bernard Smith, Marvin Edward Smith (Dianna) and Ben Joe Smith all of Grays, SC; her daughter, M. Geneva Smith of Grays; her sisters, Eva Mae Calhoun of Metter, GA and Ann Blocker of Beaufort, SC; her grandchildren, Dana Boyles, Blake Smith, Dianna G. Smith (Blake) and Ashley Harriott (Samuel) and great grandchildren, Mark Boyles III, Gabrielle Boyles, Charlie Smith, Jasper Smith, Sydney Harriott and Tucker Harriott. She was predeceased by her brothers, Leo Rowell, Frankie Rowell and Curtis Rowell and her sisters, Evelyn Crews and Mamie Lou Blocker. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday, April 13,2017 at Sauls Funeral Home, 310 W. Adams St., Ridgeland. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, April 14, 2017 at Sauls Funeral Home, 310 W. Adams St., Ridgeland with burial in Grimes Cemetery, Grays, SC.
