Nancy A. Clarkson

Nancy A. Clarkson, age 79, of Sun City passed away on Friday, September 16, 2016. Nancy was born in Melrose, MA to Rolland and Lois Zabel. She is predeceased by her parents; her husband, Robert; and her brother, Dale. She is survived by eleven nieces and nephews as well as many great and great-great nieces and nephews. Nancy moved to Upper Montclair, NJ at age 10. She was a graduate of Montclair High School and Westminster College and received her M.Ed. from Temple University. She taught in Montclair for eight years and then in the Wissahickon (PA) School District for twenty-five years. Bob and Nancy lived in Chalfont, PA for thirty years before retiring to Sun City in 2000. Nancy, as a member of the Montclair Junior League, spent many hours each week volunteering at the League’s thrift shop as well as the Montclair Community Hospital. Nancy was active in Scouting for over 20 years: as a Brownie, a Girl Scout, a Troop Leader, a Camp Counselor, and Assistant Director. In 1954, she was selected to be a NJ State Representative to the All-States Girl Scout Encampment in Cody, WY and in 1956 she accompanied a mariner troop to Europe for six weeks as an Assistant Leader. Travel was a passion of Nancy’s. She visited Forty-nine states and traveled throughout Europe on many trips with her husband. They also spent time in Costa Rica and Panama, traversing the Canal on a three-masted schooner. Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of the Low Country, P.O. Box 3827, Bluffton, SC 29910. A private “Celebration of Life” will be held at a later date.
