Nancy Ferguson (Ferguson) Spears

Nancy Ferguson Spears, 91, formerly of Wheeling, passed away peacefully at home in Sun City, Hilton Head, surrounded by her family on February 6, 2023.

She was born in Lyndhurst, Ohio, daughter of the late, Thomas R. and Juanita Hall Ferguson.

Nancy attended West Virginia University where she was a member of Pi Phi sorority, and where she also met her husband, Harry Mendel Spears. Together in Wheeling, WV, they raised three daughters.

Nancy had a deep love for her family and enjoyed spending time outdoors in the mountains or at the beach. Some of her fondest memories were spent at her family’s cabin, Shetland Hills. She was an avid tennis player, seamstress, and active member of Low Country Presbyterian Church, PEO, and Kings Daughters.

In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas R. Ferguson, Lt. General USAF; and her daughter, Linda Morrison.

She is survived by her loving husband, H. Mendel Spears of (Okatie Pines) Okatie, SC; sister, Betsy Sayre of Beckley, WV; daughter, Susan Hughes Allnutt and son-in-law, Rick Allnutt of Estes Park, CO; daughter, Betsy Spears Holloway and son-in-law, Thomas Holloway of Fripp Island, SC; son-in-law, Tim Morrison (Linda’s husband); seven grandchildren, Ryan, Brenden and Lauren Hughes, Chris Morrison, Sarah, Tommy and Elizabeth Holloway; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at Low Country Presbyterian Church, Bluffton, South Carolina on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at 4 pm.

Future services will be held in Wheeling, WV.
