Nancy Jean (Carnahan) Pinkerton
April 8, 1940 - February 27, 2025
Nancy Jean Pinkerton, age 84, of Hilton Head Island, SC, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 27, 2025, at The Seabrook Retirement Community, Hilton Head, SC.
Nancy was born on April 8, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Dorothy (Sloan) and Paul Carnahan. She graduated from Grosse Ile High School and received a Secretarial degree from Maclean College of Secretarial Science.
Nancy married George F. Pinkerton, Jr. on June 17, 1961, in Grosse Ile, Michigan. They had three girls: Sandra, Kate, and Paula. She worked as an executive secretary, served as Grosse Ile Township Clerk, and sold real estate. She was involved with many organizations on the Island, including the Islanders theatre group and Jaycees. She was a charter member and officer of the GI Presbyterian Church.
Upon George’s retirement in 1996 they moved to Bluffton, SC and became residents with the startup of Sun City Hilton Head. Nancy was very active with assisting the beginning of community activities. Her church activities included being a member of the Session at Lowcountry Presbyterian Church and the establishment of the new sanctuary. In 2012, she and George began their final journey with a move to the Seabrook Retirement Community on Hilton Head. As a member of the All Saints Episcopal Church her activities included service with the Daughters of the King.
Nancy lived a fulfilling life characterized by her enduring love for family and dedication to her personal passions and community. Her lifetime interest was service to the disabilities and special needs organizations of Michigan and South Carolina. In 1999 she was appointed by Governor Hodges of South Carolina to serve as a member of the Beaufort County Disabilities and Special Needs Board. Her membership continued until her death.
Nancy is survived by her loving husband George of 63 years, daughters Sandra (Mike) Gaken of Bay City, Mi., Kate (Brian) Robideau of Allen Park, Mi. and Paula Pinkerton of Beaufort, SC. three granddaughters - Hillary (Justin) Gump, Tracey Robideau, Trisha (David) Fowler, and four great grandchildren - Leyna & Kenzie Gump, Reagan Seafolk, and Greyson Fowler.
A service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 3001 Meeting St. Hilton Head Island, SC 29926. A reception will follow at the Seabrook Retirement Community. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ABLE Disabilities Foundation of Beaufort County, 100 Clearwater Way, Beaufort, SC 29906.
