Norma Jean Schurgot

Norma Jean Schurgot, age 93, of Bluffton/Hilton Head Island, SC and formerly of Philadelphia/Easton, PA died Thursday, April 25, 2024.

Mrs. Schurgot was born on May 15, 1930, in New Florence, PA, the daughter of the late Edna and Archibald Fenner. She graduated from Frankford High School and completed Nursing School at Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.  For 8 years she worked as a nurse in heart surgery at Hahnemann Hospital and later worked with the office of Dr. Theodore Offner in Philadelphia for 17 years. She spent the last 11 years of her nursing career working in the emergency room of Easton Hospital. After moving to Hilton Head she continued to share her nursing experience as a volunteer with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office for 20 years. She was a member of the Pennsylvania Nurses Association, the Hahnemann Alumni Nurses Association, and the Hilton Head Jazz Society. She was a member of the Third Reformed Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, PA. Outside of work and social involvement, Norma enjoyed golfing, crocheting and reading.  She enthusiastically rooted for Philadelphia sports teams and was a lifelong avid Flyers fan.

Mrs. Schurgot is predeceased by her loving husband of 65 years, Raymond Schurgot; survived by her son, Neil Schurgot (Melanie); daughter, Pamela Schurgot; grandchildren, Kristen Recupero (Joseph, Jr.), Kevin Schurgot (Dana), Breanna Weiss (Ryan), Jennifer Torres-Mayo (Zachary), and Marisa Torres; great-grandchildren, Carolina Mayo, Penelope Mayo, Calvin Mayo, Joseph Recupero, III, Elliana Recupero, Sophia Recupero and Skye Weiss; and nieces, Karen Bekery (Patrick, Sr.) and Linda Wittmer (Robert, deceased).

A funeral service will be held at 12 Noon., Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Rd, Bluffton. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Drexel University College of Nursing and Health Professions.
