Norman McKenzie Horton, 79, died Thursday, July 03, 2014 at his home in Ridgeland, SC.
Mr. Horton was born in Ridgeland, SC on August 17, 1934 to the late Benjamin Earl Horton and Flossie McKenzie Horton.
He was a US Army Veteran and served in Germany; owner of N. M. Horton and Sons Gulf and B.P. Service Center and Convenience Store in Coosawhatchie, SC; employed at K. B. Grocery and Isiah Floyds Grocery for many years; former President of Ridgeland Jaycees where he held every office and was awarded the honorary Jaycee awards, J. C. I. Senator and US Ambassador; member, St. Paul's United Methodist Church where he served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Methodist Men's Club for over 45 years; avid fisherman, cook and baker and was known for his Bar-B-Que and Caramel Cake.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty Cawthon Horton of Ridgeland, SC; sons, Norman Michael Horton (Shannon) of Hampton, SC; Glenn Kent Horton (Margie) of Irmo, SC; Gary Lamar Horton (Cindy) of Anderson, SC; brothers, J. R. Horton (Polly Ann) and Everette Horton (Jean), all of Ridgeland, SC; sister, Joyce Jacobs (Pastor Junior) of Lexington, SC; sisters in law, Hilda Horton of Bluffton, SC; Lillian Cawthon of Rincon, GA; grandchildren, Glenn K. Horton, II, Zachary R. Horton, Chase G. Horton, Grayson E. Horton, Kimberly Anderson, Danny Ragsdale and Trish Luna; great grandchildren, Landon Horton, Austin Anderson, Asa Anderson and Asher Anderson. He was preceded in death by his brother, Eugene Horton.
Funeral services will be held at 5:00 pm, Saturday, July 5, 2014 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church with burial in Ridgeland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm until the hour of service at the church. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Paul's Methodist Mens Club, Ridgeland, SC.
