Olivia Ann Hudson Goethe, age 84, of Bluffton, SC died Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Coastal Carolina Medical Center. Mrs. Goethe was born on September 17, 1932 in Savannah, GA, the daughter of the late Alfred Mose Hudson and Alma Platt Hudson. Early on she worked as a mail carrier and was known as the “mail lady” in Bluffton. In 1976 she began her career with Hargray and retired after 18 years of service as a cashier. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was ever so devoted to her family and was “Nanny” to every child that had the pleasure of knowing and loving her. She was also considered the best cook in the southeast. Mrs. Goethe was preceded in death by her loving husband, Clarence C. Goethe; son, Rex Emerson Goethe; and brother, William Lynn Hudson. She is survived by her daughters, Rosalind Smith (C.L. “Bubba”) and Kay Highberger (Johnny); sons, Ray Goethe (Terry) and Mark Goethe; daughter-in-law, Jean C. Goethe; brother, Alfred H. Hudson (Carolyn); sister, Ethel Louise Propst (Philip); grandchildren, Christopher Goethe (Kaycee), Renee Johnson Shapiro, Peyton Goethe, Rex Goethe II (Frances), Raylin Pinckney (Derrick), Cameron Walton, Sheree Goethe, Matthew Goethe (Amber), and William Lance Goethe; and great-grandchildren, Austin, Brittnie, Alaina, JC, Alyssa, Jordan, Jaden, Dylan, Logan, Christina, Rex III, Samantha, Robert, Brandon, Layla, Brooke, Malachi, Elisa, Makayla, Paisley, Autumn, and Caleb. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, September 17, 2017 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton, SC 29910. The family will be receiving friends from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow the funeral service at Bluffton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to Tidewater Hospice.
