Parnell “Par” Porter

Parnell Par Porter, age 78, of Bluffton, SC and formerly of Fairfax and Loudoun County, VA died suddenly on Friday, December 11, 2015 at Coastal Carolina Hospital in Hardeeville, SC. Mr. Porter was born on March 26, 1937 in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of the late Parnell J. Porter and Helen Helbling Porter. He was a 1954 graduate of Brentwood High School in Pittsburgh. He continued his formal education at the University of Pittsburgh, where he was a 1958 graduate. He married and moved to Washington D.C. and began law school at George Washington University Law School. He earned his law degree in 1961 and immediately began his military service as an Army Reservist with the Washington D.C. military police. Par practiced law in Fairfax and Loudoun Counties in Virginia for 50 years. He acted as Assistant Town Attorney in Vienna and Municipal Judge in Herndon, Virginia. Civically, he was a Freemason and Shriner as well as a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He was a member of Lowcountry Presbyterian Church where he was active with the Stephen Ministry. Outside of work and civic involvement, he was an avid golfer and duplicate bridge player. Mr. Porter was preceded in death by his brother, Robert C. Porter. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Barbara Porter; daughters, Kimberly Roberts (Frank) of Frederick, MD and Kathleen Porter of Wilmington, NC; son, Jon Porter (Anjie) of Apex, NC; and 3 grandsons, Jack, Kyle and Nathan Porter. A sister, Virginia Romero, of Maryland, survives hin. Plans for memorial services in Virginia and in Bluffton will be held at a later date.
