Pastor Alvin Burton Place, 80, passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Life Care of Hilton Head, Hilton Head Island, S.C.
Pastor Place was born on June 26, 1934 in Meshoppen, Pennsylvania to the late James Burton Place and Ethel M. Smith Place.
He was a graduate of Bob Jones University; formerly with Sears for twenty five years and owned The Hobby Place in New Jersey. He was the Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Ridgeland, SC where he served since 1987. He enjoyed radio controlled airplanes and boats as well as antique cars. He built a 1902 Oldsmobile which he still owned at the time of his death.
Pastor Place is survived by his wife, Ruth Shelton Place of Ridgeland, SC; daughters, Cindy Place of Grays, SC; Teresa Ambrose (Philip) of Milmay, New Jersey; sisters, Alma Loveland (Walt) of Kernersville, NC; two grandchildren, Matthew Ambrose (Samantha) of Estell Manor, New Jersey; Jessica Kashow (Joshua) of Milmay, New Jersey and two great grandchildren, Jillian and Jarrett Kashow.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Calvary Baptist Church with burial in the Ridgeland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the hour of service at the church. Memorial donations may be made in his honor to Parkinson's Society of the US, 5969 Cattleridge Blvd., Suite 100, Sarasota, FL 34232.
