Patricia Dianne Smith Jenkins

October 20, 1948 — August 7, 2025

Florence, SC

It is with heavy heart & great sorrow that we share our beloved mother/grandmother, Patricia Dianne Smith Jenkins passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on August 7, 2025.

“Pat” as her family & friends knew her was the daughter of the late Floyd & Bessie Smith. Pat attended school in Grays, SC. She lived in Ridgeland, SC till 1983 when she decided to move to Florence, SC. Upon graduating Nursing School, she went to work for Dr. Bennett & was his nurse for years, working at Ridgeland Hospital then at Ridgecrest Nursing Home. Upon moving to Florence, she worked at Commander Nursing Home, she found a niche in the Medical Equipment Industry working for nearly 20 years at RPI Medical, upon returning to Nursing Home where she finished her Nursing career finally decided to retire and take time for herself. If you knew Pat, you knew if she could she would take care of you. During her Nursing years, she took care of you as if you were her dad or mother. She became close to her patients and their families over the years.

In her later years she loved getting lost in a good Debbie Macomber & Nora Roberts book or movie. Her love for a good game of cards was always there. She played cards like her dad, take you down at all costs with a hand full. Her kids & grandkids often accused her of cheating due to her card savviness.

Those left to cherish her memories are her 3 children; Charlotte “Yvonne” Mattie of Lexington, SC, Leonard “Joseph” Mattie of Pelion, SC, Tricia E. Barwick (Jason) of Florence, SC. 7 grandchildren, Yvonne’s daughter Brittany Charlotte, (husband, Kevin, grandchildren Jackson, Kiley & Wyatt), Joey’s son Alex Joseph (wife Alexia), Tricia’s son Joshua Floyd & Charlie’s children Courtney, Megan, Kyle & Chelsea, 13 great grandchildren; one sister Christine Clements (Billy) of Ridgeland, SC.

In addition to her parents, Pat was preceded in death by her son Thomas “Charlie” Jenkins, II; one sister Ruth M. Moore, two brothers; Earl & Arnold Smith.

A special Thank you to Gentiva Hospice of Florence. Our mother was well loved and cared for by her nurse Erica & aide Nijia, whom she adored & looked forward to their visits, & Brittani the afterhours nurse who was our comfort ensuring she felt no pain & was comfortable.
