Paula Kay Emmert Durston, age 60, passed away at home in Bluffton, SC on Saturday March 28, 2009 after a lengthy illness. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, and grand-mother to her entire family for many years. Mrs. Durston was born in Maryville, MO. on November 21st, 1948. She grew up in Bedford, IA, the daughter of an astounded Chevrolet Dealer with two locations. She became a resident of Brunswick, GA in 1964 and graduated from Glenn Academy with honors. Mrs. Durston also graduated with a Nursing Degree with Honors from the Brunswick Campus, University of Georgia in 1969. She was an accomplished musician, vocalist, and pianist and studied under Dr. Max Noah of St Simons Is, GA during her education years. In 1970, after residing in Germany with her husband Tom serving in the U.S. Army, and continuing her music talents there, they returned to Hilton Head Is., SC. There she continued her Christian Music Ministry for many years to include the soprano soloist in The Messiah performed by The Hilton Head Choral Group, The Hilton Head Christian Womens Society, and performed for several dignitaries including the late Sen. Strom Thurmond. She also obtained her Real-Estate License and Brokers license, a career in which she succeeded for many years.
