Philip Arthur Blythe, age 91 of Blufton, South Carolina, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on December 25, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Philip never met a stranger, and throughout his life, touched the hearts of all who knew him with his warmth, fun-loving spirit, and infectious smile.
Philip was born on September 14, 1934, in Bibanga, Belgium Congo (today the Democratic Republic of Congo), to his missionary parents, the late Rev. Arthur and Edith Blythe. He graduated from the International Bible Training Institute, England in 1956, and was trained in Art at Bury College, England. Philip was a Farm Sales Representative in England, and after moving to the United States in 1968 he built a career as a Lead Draftsman Designer with EBCO Manufacturing in Columbus, Ohio. After moving to Southern California in 1990, he worked as a Wiring Engineer for his son’s business, Blytheco, Inc.
Philip married the love of his life, Evelyn Barbara Park, on August 24, 1957. Together, they raised three children and built a home rooted in faith, family, and a strong work ethic. Philip was a dedicated member of the Baptist Church wherever they were located and served as a deacon for many years. His faith guided his life, and he prayed daily for his family, friends, his pastor, church, and world leaders.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Evelyn; their children: Stephen and Kathi Blythe of Laguna Hills, California, Elaine Alexander and Craig Powell of Blufton, South Carolina, and Donna Blythe and Martin Jones of Royal Wootton Bassett, England; five grandchildren and numerous great and great great grandchildren; his sister, Naomi Scrivens, and cousin Moreen Nelson.
A celebration of life service will be held at Red Dam Baptist Church on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at 12 noon. The family welcomes loved ones and friends for the service and burial, followed by a gathering in the church hall.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the doctors and hospice team who provided compassionate care to Philip in his final days, and for the love, kindness and support of our church family and our lovely neighbors and friends.
Donations in lieu of flowers would be welcomed by Red Dam Baptist Church, Hardeeville, South Carolina (reddam.org), or Mirasol Health (Hospice – mirasolhealth.org).
