Philip Franklin Bright

July 17, 1937 — February 5, 2024

Phil peacefully went home to God on February 5, 2024. In the final days of his life he was cared for by Kelsy, Cheryl, Leslie and Susan, the wonderful nurses of Hospice Care of the LowCountry who treated him with such compassion, dignity and respect.

Phil was born July 17, 1937 in Greenville, Ohio to Paul and Ruby (Clark) Bright.

He was a full time member of the Ohio Army National Guard retiring as a Master Sargent in 1990 after 30 years of service.  He was an avid fisherman and extremely talented woodworker creating many beautiful pieces of furniture. He found much enjoyment and pleasure in both his fishing and woodworking.  Phil also enjoyed the hobby of trains creating an entire village with operable trains in his shop and sharing the joys of trains with all the neighborhood kids.  He truly loved his many friends, family and especially the children of his neighborhood who affectionately called him “Mr. Phil”.

Phil is survived by his wife of 40 years Marie (Sherwood) Bright, his three daughters, Penny (Mark) Shepherd, Cheryl (Jeff) Lail and Amy (Mike) Littrell, eight grandchildren Torin, Corbin and Solomon Shepherd; Cody and Clayton Lail and Grace (Kevin) Wajert; Logan and Riley Littrell as well as 11 great grandchildren; his brother Dennis (Cindy) Bright, his sister Francis (Gene) Brubaker, his sisters-in-law Connie Bright and Donna Bright; and his first wife and mother of his daughters Carolyn (Weichert) Lange.  He is also survived by his cherished neighborhood families, Joe and Christina Bryant and his three godsons, Baylor, Aidan and Carson Bryant; Glen, Candy, Dylan, Tyler, Gabby and Tessa Charest; long-time friend, Lyn Taylor, as well as his many neighborhood friends which he considered his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents Paul and Ruby Bright, his brothers Paulie, Stephen and Timothy Bright.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, February 15, 2024 at Sauls Funeral Home, Bluffton, SC www.saulsfh.com.  His cremated remains will be spread in the Broad Creek which was his happy place and his favorite fishing spot.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Hospice Care of the LowCountry, PO Box 3827, Bluffton, SC 29910 or the the charity of your choice.
