Polly Ann (Drew) Horton, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, November 29 th at Memorial Hospital in Savannah, GA.
She was born on October 13, 1938 in Marion, SC to Walter H. Drew and Evelyn Turner Drew. Her family later moved to Conway, SC where she grew up and met the love of her life James R. Horton (J.R.). Polly and J.R. were happily married on October 15, 1956 for 61 years. Polly was a devoted mother and grandmother to her four children and nine grandchildren.
Polly and J.R. started a family, opened Horton’s Gulf and later Horton Tire and Service Center. She operated and lovingly served her favorite recipes to the community at Scoops & Slices. The last years of her life, Polly proudly managed Polly Horton Rentals. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. She enjoyed time in the nursery caring for children. She and J.R. were happiest when taking their grandchildren on vacations to the Smokey Mountains and Myrtle Beach. Polly was known for her generous spirit, which she often expressed with cooking and baking. In all of her accomplishments, Polly took the greatest pride in her family and husband, J.R.
She is survived by family that loved her dearly, her daughter Anne (Billy) Hodge, son Randy (Charlotte) Horton, daughter Brenda (Joey) Smith, and son Keith (Rita) Horton, grandchildren, Billy, Jenna, Jim, Eric, Adam, Julianna, Michael, Phillip, and Nicholas, greatgrandchildren, Will, Rush, Kenna, Jase, Hudson, Noah, Gunnar, Wyatt, Lucas, Thea, and Riley, her sister Carol Drew Watson, sisters-in-law, Joyce Horton Jacobs, Betty C. Horton, Hilda T. Horton, and Kay S. Drew.
In addition to her parents and husband, Polly was preceded in death by her brothers, Leroy Drew, Orville Drew, Jackie Drew, and Derril Drew, brothers-in-law, Norman Horton, Eugene Horton, Everett Horton, Astor L. Jacobs, and David L. Watson, and her sister-in-law, Jean Horton.
The family will be forever grateful to Lee and Jinny for the years of loving care given to our mother.
A visitation will be held from 12 Noon until 1:00 pm, Saturday, December 4, 2021 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church with a burial to follow in the Ridgeland Cemetery.
