R. Michael Burget, 67, of Bluffton, SC passed away Friday, May 29, 2009 after a valiant battle with lung cancer. He was born in Indianapolis, IN on October 4, 1941 to Paul H. and Marjorie (Attkinsson) Burget.On September 1, 1962 Mike married Diane (Dinny) McFarland who survives him at home. He is also survived by his two son, Jeff Burget and his wife, Terry of Carmel, IN, Mark Burget of Westfield, IN; daughter, Judy and her husband, Steve Hardin; brother, Paul H. Jr. of Hilton Head, SC; granddaughters, Kaylee and Sydney; grandsons, Zach, Michael and Ty. Also survived by nieces, Debbie Ettinger and Diane Watkins, sister and brother in law, Bob and Judy Fesler and nieces, Kym, Kris and Amy. He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Marjorie Burget and a sister, Sandra Spencer.Mike graduated from Shortridge High School in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1959 and Indiana University Kelley School of Business in 1962. At Indiana University, he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. He worked for Eli Lilly in various management, marketing, and sales assignments for 35 years. While working for Eli Lilly, Mike worked and made many friends in Lebanon, PA, Cherry Hill, NJ, Palatine, IL, Baltimore, MD, Zionsville, IN, Columbus, OH and Cincinnati, OH. Mike was a well liked manager and highly respected by all who had the opportunity to work with him.Mike and Dinny retired to Hilton Island and Bluffton, SC where they have lived for the past thirteen years. He was a loving husband for 46 years, a loyal father that enjoyed talking to his children daily and grandfather that loved hearing and seeing the experiences of his growing grandchildren. Mike experienced his dream of retirement by traveling, living on a golf course and participating in community service in Colleton River Plantation where he served as a board member and chaired several committees. He is a member of Lowcountry Presbyterian Church.Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at 1:00 pm at the Lowcountry Presbyterian Church, 10 Simmonsville Rd., Bluffton, SC.
