Ray Mullaney

June 12, 1941 — December 13, 2014

Ray Mullaney It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of our beloved Ray. Devoted husband of Lorraine, died at home on December 13, 2014. Ray was very much loved and will be terribly missed. Ray was born in East Orange, New Jersey on June 12, 1941 the son of the late Raymond Mullaney and Dorothy Guinan Mullaney. He was a graduate of Conception Abbey College. In addition to his wife of 44 years Ray is survived by his brother Michael Mullaney and his wife, Rita of New York and many nieces and nephews. Ray was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in Germany from 1967 to 1969 and always spoke of how proud he was of his service there. Following his time in the service he worked as an Editor for Pearson Education from which he retired after 40 years. Ray learned to sail and loved to sail his beloved catboat "Wind Rose" which he had built for him. He sailed her on the bay in Barnegat, New Jersey for more than 10 years. He brought her to South Carolina and sailed her on the Colleton River enjoying the beautiful lowcountry. As well as sailing Ray enjoyed tennis and played several times a week with his fellow neighbors. Music was always in his heart and Ray loved playing his guitars and singing. Until this year he sang with the St. Gregory the Great Choir and the Lazarus Choir. Ray also loved to serve at the early weekday masses at St. Andrew Chapel. Ray loved life and life loved him back. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 18, 2014 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 333 Fording Island Road, Bluffton, SC 29909.
