Reverend Marvin Moore, 78, of Bluffton, South Carolina, was called home to heaven to be with his Lord and Savior, on January 30, 2022. He was born in Columbia, Missouri, on January 10, 1944, to his late parents, Morris and Udema Moore. He enjoyed growing up on a farm with wonderful memories and surrounded by a loving family and friends. He served in the Boone county and state court of Missouri, as deputy clerk; and worked in the agriculture supply business as office and sales manager; but, his true calling was the ministry of spreading the Gospel of Christ, presenting his first sermon at age 15 and singing at church events.
In 1985, he was appointed as Lay Pastor in Missouri. He recorded an album of Christian Gospel titled, “Gentle Shepherd.” In 1989, he graduated from University of Missouri; and SMU Perkins School of Theology in Dallas, Texas, in 1993, with a Masters of Divinity. He also attended Christ for the Nations, in Dallas, Texas. He was ordained a Deacon in the Central Texas Conference United Methodist Church in 1992; and an Elder in 1994. Marvin was the first person in the state of Texas to be designated a Certified Rural Chaplain, an association which specifically ministers to the peoples of small towns and rural communities.
Marvin served several churches in Missouri, Ohio, Texas, Tennessee, and, South Carolina. He faithfully served Hardeeville United Methodist Church from 2016 to the day of his passing from this life to eternal glory. His ministry in word was relatable to all and his beautiful singing was to always show the hope and the love of God and to point each and every heart to Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit.
While in Texas, Marvin met and married his beloved wife, Leigh. She treasures the precious memories and every joy-filled day of twenty plus years of marriage. Being able to share life, love, and, work side by side in ministry with Marvin has been a true blessing. Marvin is also survived by son Don Moore (Denise); daughter Kimberly Strawn (Kevin); and son Justin Willingham; brother Bob Moore (Suzi); sister Judith Moore; sister Janice Bradley; and sister Jane Elledge (John); and grand-children Clay, Kameron, and Kourtney; and nieces and nephews.
Marvin enjoyed many hobbies including woodworking, gardening, grilling a steak to perfection, wildlife and nature, history, and he loved this country. He always had a song in his heart and a smile on his face.
There will be a celebration of Marvin’s life on February 15 th , at Hardeeville UMC, 11:00 a.m., at 111 Main St. Any memorials may be made to Hardeeville UMC, P O Box 1110, Hardeeville, SC 29927. We are comforted and encouraged knowing that Marvin is full of joy and singing praises to his Lord, sheltered in the arms of God.
