Richard P. "Dick" Shelton, 72, of Hardeeville, SC and formerly of Stafford, VA died Wednesday, October 29, 2014.
Mr. Shelton was born on October 20, 1942 in Washington, DC. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving during the Vietnam War. He worked for 30 years as an information technology specialist, retiring from the United States government in 2000. He continued his second career with the Stafford County Public Schools where he worked at Thompson Middle School and retired in 2005.
Mr. Shelton was preceded in death by his mother, Marguerite Hudson Pickett. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Gloria Shelton; daughter, Michael Thompson (Chris) of Purcellville, VA; grandchildren Reed, Mira, and Shane Thompson; son, Chris Shelton of Alexandria, VA and sister, Elizabeth Brown of Raleigh, NC.
A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 8, at the home of his daughter, Michael and Chris Thompson in Purcellville, VA. There will also be a celebration in South Carolina at a later date. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to any animal rescue organization of choice.
