Richard Michael Devingo

September 5, 1946 — April 7, 2020

Richard Michael DeVingo 73, of Bluffton South Carolina died peacefully at home on April 7, 2020 after a long hospitalization, with his loving wife Donna by his side.

Richard was born on September 5, 1946 in Brooklyn, New York, the only son of Ann Mosca and Chester DeVingo. Richard was raised in the Bronx, New York on Arthur Avenue until moving to Mount Vernon, New York to attend grade school.

Richard joined the United States Army on April 1, 1964 in Fort Dix, New Jersey. He was stationed in Pleiku in the Republic of South Vietnam and served his country courageously as a Gunner pt Class on a Huey Helicopter from 1964 to 1966. Richard was awarded three Purple Hearts, the Bronze Star and a Silver Star for his meritorious military service.

After serving three years in the United States Army, Richard worked in the Automobile Industry as a Finance Manager and Finance Director at several well-known car dealerships in New York and New Jersey.

Richard became a Certified Alcohol Substance Abuse Counselor in the late 1980's and worked tirelessly with many veterans and civilians in drug and alcohol treatment centers and programs in New York until he retired in April 2012.

Richard and Donna relocated to Bluffton, South Carolina in January 2017.

Richard was an amazing cook and extremely gracious host. He loved spending time at the beach and sharing his dream home with family and friends throughout the year and always looked forward to an annual vacation in Maui, Hawaii.

Richard will be forever remembered for his courage, fortitude, generosity and his true love of life.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Donna (McNamara) and a daughter from a previous marriage, Stephanie DeVingo of Yonkers New York, brother in law Thomas McKeever (Joan) of Bluffton SC, cherished lifelong friend George Serdinsky (Patty) of Colorado, Butch Barbella (JoAnn) of Bronxville, NY,  loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, family and friends in the Tri State New York area.
