Richard Peter Garcia

July 19, 1945 – January 26, 2025

It is with profound sadness that the family of Richard Peter Garcia announces his passing; husband, father, grandfather and friend, on January 26, 2025 on Hilton Head, South Carolina at the age of 79. Born in New York City on July 19, 1945, he was the son of Serafin Otto Garcia and Anastacia Valauskas. Richard is survived by his wife, Alese Gordon Garcia, his son, William Garcia and his spouse Anit of Charlotte, NC, his daughter, Alison Garcia Aubry and her spouse Kevin, and his two grandchildren, Matthew Aubry and Lilian Aubry of New Fairfield, Connecticut.

Richard was raised in White Plains, New York and was an avid Boy Scout reaching the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Archbishop Stepinac High School in 1963 and the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, majoring in Economics, in 1967. During both his high school and college years he was an active debater reaching national level competition. He graduated from the Syracuse University College of Law in 1970 obtaining a Doctorate of Jurisprudence.

Richard engaged in the general practice of law specializing in criminal law and litigation. He served as a Legal Aid Attorney, an Assistant District Attorney and an Acting District Attorney for the County of Putnam, NY. For many years he served as an Administrative Law Judge for the State of New York.

Richard was an avid lover of soccer (football) and coached many youth soccer teams as well as refereed. He very much enjoyed classical music and was a voracious reader of history. A hobby he continued from childhood through adulthood was coin collecting. Richard was an amateur photographer and captured many images of wildlife. Richard’s quick witted sense of humor brought laughter to many.

Richard will be greatly missed. A memorial service will take place in May, 2025.
