Richard H Hackett

After a long illness, Richard H Hackett , 79 of Bluffton, SC passed away on Sunday, Sept 1, 2013 at home with his family by his side. Richard was born on August 23, 1934 in Springfield, MA , son of the late Harold and Stella (Zukowski) Hackett. He is a veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1953 to 1957 in radio communications for the Air Force. He was stationed in Tripoli, Africa and in Crete, Greece. He lived most of his life in Chicopee, MA, owned and operated Chicopee Glass and Mirror Co. until his retirement in 1998 where he and his wife moved to Bluffton, SC. Richard is survived by his wife, Teresa Hackett, daughters Valerie Petit of Springfield, Mass, Nancy Hackett of Hawaii, a son, Brian Hackett of Chicopee, MA, a step daughter, Veronica (Drechnowicz) Zombik of Bluffton, SC a step son , Henry Drechnowicz of Hope Alaska and several grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother James Martin and his sister Phyllis Smee. Richard was a volunteer for many years for the Sun City Veterans Honor Guard and an active member of the Sun City Model Yacht Club and Horseshoe Club. Memorial donations may be made in his honor to the Disabled American Veterans.
