Richard F. Majkowski

Richard F. Majkowski, age 86, of Bluffton, SC and formerly of Detroit, MI and Chicago, IL, passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at St. Joseph-Candler Hospital in Savannah, GA. Mr. Majkowski was born on April 18, 1930 in Detroit, MI, the son of the late Frank and Veronica (Brynski) Majkowski. He was a graduate of the University of Detroit, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics, as well as his Masters of Science in Physics. Mr. Majkowski was a physicist with General Motors Research Laboratories for many years, retiring from the company in the late ‘80s. Later in his career, Mr. Majkowski also became a Professor of Physics and enjoyed teaching at both his alma mater and at Lawrence University (formerly known as Lawrence Institute of Technology) in Southfield, MI. He was of Catholic faith and attended St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Bluffton. Outside of work he enjoyed sailing, swimming, cooking and traveling throughout the United States and Europe. Mr. Majkowski is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Maud C. Majkowski, and his brother, Frank Majkowski (Carol), as well as twelve (12) nieces and nephews. Mr. Majkowski was preceded in death by his brother Thaddeus (Sylvia) Majkowski and his sister Mary Jane (Majkowski) Brown. A prayer service will take place at 6:00 p.m., Sunday, October 30, 2016 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton, SC 29910. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
