Beloved husband, father and grandfather, Richard (Red) Arthur Orff, a New Hampshire native and longtime resident, passed on August 21, 2012, at the early age of 65, after a short and difficult battle with brain cancer. He was surrounded by loved ones at home in South Carolina. He was born March 4, 1947 in Nashua to the late Arthur Orff and Elizabeth Orff (Hall) of the Nashua area. Red graduated from Nashua High School in 1965. He received a BA in 1969 from Franklin Pierce College and later an MBA from Rivier College in 1984. He had a long career at Sanders Associates, which became BAE Systems.Red married Wendy Orff (Pelletier) his high school sweetheart in 1969. He is survived by Wendy and their three children, Michael Orff and his wife Emily Cohen of Jamaica Plain, MA; Stacy Orff-Whitfield and her husband Alejandro Whitfield of Oakland, CA; and Heather Orff of Bluffton, SC, as well as beloved grandson Sebastian Whitfield. He was a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed playing with his kids and teaching them sports. In his early years, Red was an avid outdoorsman and cherished memories of fishing and hunting with his father. He was a skilled golfer, enjoying the camaraderie on the course, and kept up skiing until moving to Bluffton, SC in 2009. He was an active volunteer in the community near and far, spending time volunteering at hospitals and church, driving a school bus, and going on mission trips to Namibia, Africa to work with children. He enjoyed travel with Wendy, with his favorite island destination becoming Cat Island, Bahamas.He was a quiet, kind and gentle soul and also known for his quick wit and sense of humor. He was and will continue to be loved by many and will be deeply missed.A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held on August 31 at 11:00 am at Christ
