Richard Allen Powell, 59 passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Beaufort Memorial Hospital, in Beaufort, S.C. Richard was born on September 17, 1956 in Charlottesville, Virginia. He graduated from Fluvanna County High School, 1974 with honors in Palmyra, Virginia. Richard is survived by his wife Leisha Powell, step daughter Brandy Martin-Williams (Kenneth), and step son Timothy Brian Bonk. Also surviving are two brothers Jerry Wayne Powell, Larry “David” Powell (Ruth) and sister Judith Carol Powell. He is preceded in death by his parents Weldon Curtis Powell and Gloria Lee Breeden Powell, and a brother Weldon Lee Powell. Richard loved his family. He was a loving husband, brother, and uncle. Richard had five step-grandchildren Ariah Almendarez, Taylor Bonk, Landon Bonk, Caroline Bonk and Bryce Williams. A niece Meghan Renee Powell and a nephew Gavin Curtis Powell. Richard was an avid golfer who loved the game and it's challenges. He loved to fish, hunt deer, turkey, dove, quail and rabbit. He also loved to garden and was very proud of the vegetables he grew to provide for his family growing up in Virginia. Richard was a master 'butcher', a meat cutter of 45 years. Beginning his career at E. W. Thomas Butchery and Country store in Palmyra Virginia. He worked for Food Lion 10+ years, Winn-Dixie as a Market manager in Beaufort, SC for 16 years, and ending his career at Publix on Lady's Island. Richard always had a beautiful smile and a great sense of humor. Always saying “there is a positive side to every negative. And also he lived by his morals of “Don't sweat the small stuff, because in the end it's all small stuff.” A Memorial service and celebration of his life is planned for Saturday, September 24th at 1:00 pm, at Leisha and Richard's residence. Family and friends are encouraged and welcome to attend and join us.
