Richard Gerard Schilling

Richard Gerard Schilling 81 of Bluffton, SC passed away at Coastal Carolina Hospital, Hardeeville, SC on August 25, 2016. Mr. Schilling was born in Bronx, New York on April 9, 1935 to the late Edward Schilling and Ellen McGevna Schilling. Mr. Schilling was retired from Dura Lab Medical Equipment Company of New York and formerly worked as a Purchasing Agent for General Motors Corporation in New York City. Mr. Schilling was a member of Saint Gregory the Great Catholic Church and a US Army veteran who served in the Pentagon. He had a great sense of humor; never met a stranger; could talk to anyone; loved Irish music; loved to dance; was a Lacrosse fan, was an avid skier, and loved his grandchildren. Mr. Schilling is survived by his wife, Loretta Monaghan Schilling of Bluffton; four daughters, Aileen House (Trent), Maura Black (Peter), Tara Ruggiero and Erin Clark (Derrick) all of New Jersey and grandchildren, Brendan and Owen Black, Kiera Black, Aidan, Sean and Maeve Clark, Mark Ruggiero and Declan House. He was predeceased by his brothers, Edward and Thomas Schilling. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Rd., Bluffton with a Prayer Service at 5:30 pm. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Friday, September 2, 2016 at Saint Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 333 Fording Island Road, Bluffton with burial at 1:00 pm at Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort. Lieu of flowers, please make donations to a charity of your choice or to the St. Gregory the Great Building Fund, 333 Fording Island Road, Bluffton, SC 29909.
