Richard Lee Taylor

September 14, 1951 — February 6, 2023

Richard Lee Taylor, 71, of Ridgeland, South Carolina passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on Monday, February 6, 2023.

He was born on September 14, 1951 in Trenton, Michigan to the late Claude H. Taylor and Kathleen Jean Taylor.

Richard worked for McLouth Steel in Michigan as a certified welder, pipe fitter, and millwright for 27 years until the business closed in 1996. Upon the close of McLouth Steel, Richard relocated to Ridgeland, South Carolina where he began working for South Island Public Service District in Hilton Head. He worked in electrical maintenance for 19 years until his retirement in 2016.

Richard had many passions and hobbies. He was a man of Catholic faith. He loved riding his Harley Davidson, especially to bike week in Daytona. He had been attending bike week since the early 80’s, and then Connie began going with him in 2008. Richard and Connie would camp at the Nova campgrounds in Port Orange, Florida during bike week. They loved riding the Harley together, but especially to Dawson’s Landing, Grays Hill, and Stokes Bluff. He was always listening to various country artists, but some of his favorites were Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, David Allen Coe, and George Jones. He attended countless auctions, flea markets, and estate sales in search of wonderful treasures. Richard was quite the handy man, he enjoyed various DIY projects at his home including, roofs and greenhouses. Aside from the DIY projects, he simply just liked being at his home surrounded by his treasures. Richard enjoyed many TV shows such as American Pickers, Storage Wars, Ice Road Truckers, Pawn Stars, and Swamp People. He also enjoyed being able to let loose at two of his favorite places, Harold’s Country Club and Schooner’s.

It is apparent that Richard was a man of many interests, but there was nothing he loved more than lending a helping hand to anyone in need, and taking care of his home, which he referred to as his “castle” or “empire.”

Richard is survived by his life partner, Connie Hausch of Ridgeland, SC, a daughter, Charlene Rose Taylor-White (Kevin) of Tennessee, Connie’s sons, Isaac McClain and Jake McClain both of Florida, three step-children, David Pribyl of Michigan, T.J. Skrypiec of Florida, Jamie Leach of Michigan, four brothers, Thomas Taylor, Ronald Taylor, Billy Taylor, and Raymond Taylor, two sisters, Claudia Taylor, Kathy Taylor, four grandchildren, Bradley, Caleb, Justin, and Nathan, and a great-grandchild, Wrenesmae, six nephews, Aaron Taylor, Bobby Taylor, Sean Taylor, Joshua Taylor, Michael Orren, Roger Orren, and five nieces, Laura Taylor, Susan Taylor, Sandy Taylor, Sarah Taylor, Melissa Hayes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a nephew, Thomas Taylor, Jr. and his three Boxers, Roscoe, Rudy, and Smokey.
