Robert Bailey (Bob) Lundberg

Bluffton, SC – Robert (Bob) Bailey Lundberg, 80, died on July 21, 2018, in Savannah, GA. He was born May 3,1938 in Summit NJ to the late Harold Gordon Lundberg and Mildred Bailey Lundberg. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Sandra Johns Lundberg. He is survived by his twin sister Lois Carter (Jim) of Watkins Glen, NY. He is survived by sons, Christopher Johns Lundberg (Dena) of Clinton, Mississippi and Neil Robert Lundberg (Bertine) of Sharpsburg, Georgia. He was blessed with two grandchildren, Owen Riley Lundberg and Nolan Alexander Lundberg of Clinton, Mississippi. He is also survived by dear friend Priscilla Fletcher.

Bob was a Mechanical Engineering graduate of Rutgers University, New Brunswick NJ. After graduation, he joined the Navy and completed OCS. He enjoyed his 3 years in the Navy while serving as a Seabee. Next, he embarked on a career in the Pulp and Paper industry with Union Camp. His career started in Franklin, Virginia and took him to Montgomery AL, Greenville, SC, Columbia, SC before bringing him and Sandy to the Bluffton area.

While his sons were active in Boy Scouts, he volunteered and was Troop 307 Scoutmaster for several years. He led two trips from Montgomery Alabama to the National Jamboree in Virginia.

A part time job in the greenhouse as a teenager turned into a lifelong passion for rose growing. He and Sandy shared a love of competition and fellowship with other Rosarians. Bob grew roses for over fifty years and enjoyed competing in American Rose Society Rose sanctioned shows on Local, District, and National Levels. His and Sandy’s successes included over 25 National Challenge Class wins. He was recognized on the National Level by winning the Guy Blake Hedrick Award for Rose Exhibiting Excellence, and on the District Level by being awarded the Silver Medal Honor.

Bob was active in the Bluffton Men’s Club for many years, including a term as president in 2008. He has also been active member of the Bluffton United Methodist Church. He greatly enjoyed the Thursday morning work group. The family would like to extend their thanks to the Doctors and nursing staff at Candler Hospital in Savannah.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Tuesday July 24, 2018 at Saul’s Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Rd., Bluffton. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday July 25, 2018 at Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort followed by a Funeral Memorial Service at 11:30 am, Wednesday July 25, 2018 at Bluffton United Methodist Church, 101 Calhoun St., Bluffton SC, 29910.
