Robert B. Clawson

Robert B. Clawson, 81, of Bluffton, SC, formerly of Wall Township, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on January 18, 2025. Born in Neptune, NJ, Robert was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend known for his unwavering dedication to family, community, and service.

A proud graduate of Wall Township High School (Wall, NJ) and Brookdale Community College (Lincroft, NJ), Robert served in the U.S. Navy Reserves before embarking on a distinguished career in law enforcement. Rising through the ranks, he retired as Chief of Police from the Wall Township Police Department (Wall, NJ). His commitment to justice and leadership was further exemplified by his graduation from the prestigious FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA.

In retirement, Robert embraced the joys of life in Bluffton, SC, where he pursued his passion for golf.  He enjoyed a part-time role as a school resource officer for the Bluffton school district, where he positively impacted so many students.

He shared 57 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Eloise Clawson. Together, they raised two children: Robert Clawson (spouse, Mark J. Donellan) of Stafford Township, NJ, and Kathryn Branagan of Bluffton, SC. Robert was a proud grandfather to Victoria (of Pittsburgh, PA) and Thomas Robert (of Stafford Township, NJ). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews who will deeply miss his warmth and wisdom.

Throughout his life, Robert valued the lifelong friendships he built—from his childhood in Wall Township to his retirement years in South Carolina. His kindness, humor, and loyalty left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.

In place of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation (T2T.org), a cause close to Robert’s heart.

A funeral service will be held at Sauls Funeral Home in Bluffton, SC, on January 30, 2025, at 11:00 AM, followed by inurnment at the Resurrection Garden at Saint Gregory’s Church, Bluffton, SC.
