Robert Stephan Fischer

Robert Stephan Fischer, 87, of Bluffton, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2025, just ten days shy of his 88th birthday.

Born in Manhattan and raised in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, Bob moved to Dumont, New Jersey at the age of four. He called Dumont home for nearly eight decades before relocating to Bluffton at the age of 83 to be closer to his beloved grandchildren.

Bob is survived by his devoted wife, Nancy Carol Fischer (née Bischoff); his sons, Michael and Andrew Biscamp; his daughter, Carolyne Stephanie Rao and son-in-law Frank Rao; and his cherished grandsons, Vincent and Jake Rao. He was predeceased by his parents, Helen (Bomba) Fischer and Robert Daniel Fischer, as well as his brother, Edward Fischer.

In his senior year of high school, Bob proudly joined the U.S. Navy Reserves, serving for five years. He began his career as an auto mechanic at Mullane Ford before moving on to the phone company. In 1962, he found his true calling when he joined the Dumont Police Department, where he served with integrity and distinction for over three decades. He retired as a Detective Sergeant in 1995. Never one to sit still, Bob continued working for several years at Tiffany & Co. and the Clinton Inn.

Bob was a true jack of all trades. He took pride in maintaining his home and landscaping his property with care. He could often be found enjoying political debates with friends at the Crystal Diner in Dumont or simply spending time with the people he loved most. Above all, Bob was a family man — loyal, dependable, and deeply loving.

Those who knew Bob will remember his strong character, quick wit, and unwavering dedication to his family and friends. He had a quiet strength that left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

A visitation will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Sauls Funeral Home in Bluffton, SC. A religious service will follow immediately, with burial on the grounds.

Bob will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
