Robert J. Foley, age 88, died Wednesday, November 21, 2023 in Bluffton, SC. Mr. Foley was born in Pittsburgh, PA on January 2nd, 1935 to the late George and Irene Foley.
Bob was a longtime resident of Sun City and very active in the community. He sang in the Sun City Chorus and the choir at St Gregory the Great. He was in several theater productions and just loved to sing. He volunteered at Heroes on Horseback and as a swimming instructor for children.
He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and went on to earn his MBA at the Wharton School. He started his career in marketing and advertising at DuPont in Wilmington, DE, and then moved to New York, working for Grey Advertising, Women’s Wear Daily, and Wilcox & Associates.
His greatest sense of fulfillment came later in his career when he worked for Jawonio, placing special needs adults in professional work settings. He also enjoyed a teaching career in marketing, where he was an adjunct in several colleges in New York.
He was an extraordinarily kind and generous man with a heart of pure gold. He had a great sense of humor and often referred to himself as “Bagel Bob” because he was known for eating and giving them away to anyone with a mailbox.
His beloved wife, Betty Foley, and brother, Elmer Foley, preceded him in death.
Bob is survived by two sons, Michael Foley of New York, NY, and Rick Foley of Bloomington, IN; sister, Martha Loya, of Seven Hills, OH; and three grandchildren, Ben, Caitlin, and Jack Foley.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am, December 14, 2023, at St. Gregory the Great, Bluffton, with a reception to follow.
