Dr. Robert Vernon Frey

Dr. Robert V. Frey, Hilton Head SC, formally of East Moline,IL passedaway peacefully, Nov 2, 2014 at his home. He was 91. To his wishes,cremation rites have been accorded. In celebration of his life, a memorial service will be held will be on Dec 7 at 1pm at Salem Lutheran Church Moline, IL Bob was born Sept. 20, 1923 in Moline. The son of Vernon M. and Hazel Stalcup Frey. He married Dorothy Riley. He later married Jo Ann Leonard Dec.15, 1965. Bob graduated Augustana College and University of Loyola, College ofDentistry both with high honors. He opened his dental practice in EastMoline in 1951, practicing until retirement in 1989. He was a proud Army Veteran of WWII as a member of the 503rd AirborneParachute Infantry, stationed in the South Pacific. He completed 23 jumps. Music was a true and natural passion of his. He was accomplished in banjoand bass, playing many gigs, but his most memorable was with his friends Louis Bellson, and The Bob Lofgren Band. He had lead rolls in Music Guild productions of Bye Bye Birdie and Guys and Dolls. Bicycling was another true passion. He was a founding member of theQuad City Bike Club, TOMRV and joined in many RAGBRAI rides. Whileon a local rural ride, he was stuck by lightning! He was a member of the Rock Island Co. Dental Society, IL State DentalSociety, East Moline Rotary serving as past president and a member of thePaul Harris Fellowship. He served on the board of Bethany Home, QCSymphony, Music Guild and Moline Public Hospital. Left to honor his memory, his loving wife of 48 years, Jo Ann, children, Ruth(Bob) Carver, Richmond, VA, Marti (Jim) Kernan, Moline, Mike Donnell,Chantilly, VA, Tom Leonard, Rock Island, IL, 7 grandchildren, 8 greatgrandchildren and special friends, Patty and the late Dan Watkins andNancy and Don Davis. He is preceded in death by his parents, 3 sons, Bob,Jim and Bill and grandson, Jim Jaggers.
