Robert "Bob" H. Dolce, 82, of Hilton Head Island, died on November 11, after a brief illness, and surrounded by his family.
He was born in Brooklyn, NY on April 5, 1934 to Joseph and Lily (Idaspe) Dolce, and was the youngest of three brothers. In 1936, the family moved to Burlington, NJ. Bob graduated from Burlington High School in 1952 and attended Juniata College in Huntingdon, PA. In 1953, while working for the family shoe business, he invented the glass heel, which soon became a fashion favorite for ladies shoes. He was vice president of the Clover Shoe Mfg. Co, but always enjoyed his hobbies of flying, motorcycle riding, and sailing. After moving to Hilton Head in the early 1980s, he worked as the manager of Skull Creek Marina, developed the marina at Dataw Island, and started his own marine surveying business.
Bob was predeceased by his two brothers, Joseph Dominic and Frank Edward. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 61 years, Doris Eleanor (Moore) Dolce, daughters Kim Elizabeth Dolce of New Smyrna Beach, FL, and Lori Karin (Jon) Clark of Hilton Head, SC.
A visitation will be held 10:00 am until 12:00 noon, Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Rd, Bluffton, with a memorial service following. A service in New Jersey will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Care of the Lowcountry, PO Box 3827 Bluffton, SC 29910.
