Robert "Bob" J. Platt, Sr.

Bluffton, S.C. - Robert (Bob) J. Platt Sr., 85, peacefully passed away on May 12, 2024, at Hilton Head Hospital. He was born on November 15, 1938, in Trenton, NJ, the cherished son of John and Ruth (Fisher) Platt. Bob graduated from Trenton High School, Class of 1957, where he cultivated lifelong friendships and a passion for service.

Following his graduation, Bob honorably served in the US Navy aboard the USS Essex from 1957 to 1959. It was during this time that he married his high school sweetheart in February 1959. Together, they established their home in Yardville, NJ, creating a foundation of love and warmth for many years to come.

Bob's professional journey was marked by dedication and resilience. He embarked on a career as an owner-operator for esteemed companies such as Tastykake Baking Company and Pepperidge Farm. Later in life, he proudly served his country once again, this time with the US Customs and Border Control at McCarren Airport, (Las Vegas, NV), where he eventually retired. Bob's time in Las Vegas was filled with joy, particularly as he indulged his passion for poker.

In addition to his beloved wife, Barbara (Hawley) Platt, Bob is survived by his daughter Debbie Golab and her husband Gene (Bluffton, SC); his daughter Karen Stearle (Henderson, NV); and his devoted son Robert J Platt Jr (Reno, NV). Bob also leaves behind a legacy of love in his extended family, including four grandchildren: Nicole Wong and her husband David (Savannah, GA); Zachary Golab and his wife Lauren (Charleston, SC); and Ryan and Matthew Stearle (Henderson, NV). His two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Sydney Wong, (Savannah, GA) brought him immeasurable joy. Bob is further survived by his sister, Janet Thompson, her husband, Walter, and his brother, Charles T Platt, all from Henderson, NV, along with many nieces and nephews who adored him.

A funeral Mass celebrating Bob's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 31 St. Gregory Dr., Bluffton, SC. Following the Mass, a burial with military honors will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at Beaufort National Cemetery, 1601 Boundary St., Beaufort, SC. The family will gratefully welcome friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Rd., Bluffton, SC.
