On Wednesday, at 6:00 P.M., the spirit of Robert H. Lang returned to the Creator who had given it as a gift almost ninety years prior. He lived in the deliberate masculine way known only to men who are wholly committed to love. He loved flight. At 13, he made a commitment to himself to fly. He loved his countrymen. In 1944, at the age of 17, he joined the Navy and added his young strength to the American cause in the Second World War. He then became a Marine Corps aviator, serving as a fighter pilot in the Korean Conflict. He loved the men he served with. At Cornell University, he forged friendships that would endure. He loved his profession as a 747 Captain for Pam American World Airways. He was committed to his passengers and delivered hundreds of thousands of souls safely to their global destinations. He carried American presidents and international dignitaries. He loved humanity. He loved his children and spent himself for their provision. His home would become a haven to extended family, troubled youth, and beloved friends. His heart and his hands remained opened to all. His children, grand children, and great granddaughter were sources of extraordinary joy and satisfaction to him --- his affection and wisdom, their treasure. His greatest gift to his children was his enduring love for their mother. The romance of Bob and Anne Lang fuelled a vibrant marriage for 60 years. It will burn brightly through eternity thanks to the surpassing victory of Jesus Christ over death. Capt. Robert H. Lang died as he lived, with his family and loved ones surrounding. He is survived by his beloved, Anne L. Lang; his sons, Robert H. Lang, Jr. and Scott Christopher Lang; his daughters, Anne Theresa Bonnie (late Michael Gino) Luchetti, Kerry Elizabeth (Barry L.) Johnson, and Margaret Noel (Alford Michael) Goldman; niece, Anne Louise Drylie; grandchildren, Krista Marie Lang, Kayla Nicole Lang, Liza (Christopher Anthony) Mattson, William Lamar Johnson, II, Alyssa Anne Goldman, Michael Tyler Goldman, and Robert Connor Goldman; great-granddaughter, Livinia Elizabeth Mattson; step-grandchildren, Charles Barry Johnson and Claire DeVaux Bennett; and cherished family friend, Jade Yu. Special recognition of his daughter Bonnie Luchetti and son, Scott C. Lang is fitting. Along side their mother, they selflessly ministered to their father through the days of his prolonged decline at home. Your family is grateful beyond words. A memorial mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 25, 2016 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, 220 Pinckney Colony Road, Bluffton, SC 29910. A private burial will take place at a later date at the St. Frances by the Sea Catholic Church columbarium. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Island Hospice, 3 West Perry Street, Savannah, GA 31401 or to any veteran’s charity of choice.
