Robert Stanley Robbins, MD, 84 of Bluffton, SC passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at his home.He was born in Masontown, PA on January 10, 1925. He was the son of the late Goldie Johnson and Karl F. Robbins.He received his pre med education from Morgantown, WVA and his medical degree from Pittsburgh University. He was a General Practitioner in Wayne, WVA for two years and returned to Pittsburg specializing in anesthesia at Mercy Hospital. He moved to Wheeling, WVA practicing for ten years at Ohio Valley General Hospital and then established the Anesthesia Department at Wheeling Hospital. It was here he established a nurse anesthetist program he maintained until he retired in 1986 due to a heart disease.He was president of Ohio County Medical Society as well as president of Wheeling Hospital Staff. After by pass surgery he volunteered with Hospice as well as other local charities. He was very active at Vance Church serving as elder many terms as well as working committees. After moving to South Carolina he became an active member in Lowcountry Presbyterian Church.He was a US Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lee Robbins; three sons, Ed and wife, Celia of Los Angeles, CA, Bob and wife, Pam of Asheville, NC, David of Kings Mountain, NC; one daughter, Maribeth Lambert and husband, Peter of Montgomery, AL; six grandchildren, Jim Lambert, Katherine Trock, J. Nathan, Nick, Patrick and Megan Robbins; one great grandchild, Danny; and two brothers, Karl Robbins, and Paul Robbins and his wife, Margaret. He was predeceased by one brother, Tom.Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at the Lowcountry Presbyterian Church, Bluffton, SC. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the Hospice Care of the Lowcountry, P.O.
