Roberta Lynn Hubelbank

November 18, 1952 — January 21, 2021

My beloved wife, Roberta Hubelbank, my closest friend, my confidant, my guiding light, my sweetheart, succumbed to a massive 6th stroke at 1:00am on January 21 suffered at approximately 4pm January 20 at the ripe young age of 68.

She was born in Brooklyn, NY to Theodore and Beatrice Roth on November 18, 1952. A lifelong New Yorker she relocated to Sun City Hilton Head with her husband Jay in January 2012. Roberta received her MBA in Communications from Brooklyn College and went on to produce TV NEWS for WNYC.

Roberta met her husband Jay in the late 1980s and things progressed. Roberta was a very social person having a full schedule at all times, hosting numerous parties, dinners and events throughout the year, including her very active participation in and as President of a Rockland county chapter of Hadassah. She enjoyed dining out, good food, talking with friends, traveling, knitting, crocheting, needlepoint and Mah Jong, romance movies and especially reading.

Roberta was always joyful and bubbly passing that on to those around her. She was quick, witty and articulate making her a superb conversationalist. She was always immaculately coifed, manicured and attired, not leaving her home until picture perfect. Through her teens and into adulthood Roberta’s personality became an inspiration to her many cousins.

She became an avid motorcyclist with Jay having traveled as a passenger more than 300,000 miles through most of the US. Her ability to multitask was legendary amongst her friends evidenced by listening to books on tape while reading another book on the back of a motorcycle. She is a life member of the Ramapo Motorcycle Club, American Motorcycle Association & Hadassah.

Roberta took up new crafts of glass crafting and ceramics in Sun City and continued to ride until subsequent strokes prevented continued participation. Reading became difficult but she persevered and was almost always in therapy, speech, physical and occupational to learn and implement new strategies to overcome her ever diminishing capacity caused by each subsequent stroke . She took up beading as a new craft and augmented her reading with a Kindle so the typeface could be enlarged. Over time even the most mundane tasks became obstacles.

Her health declination began in 1993 with a broken foot that wouldn't heal and things progressively worsened as she endured the slow decline.

Roberta is survived by her husband, Jay, sister Abby, brother Michael and her 98 year old mother Beatrice, her 5 nieces and nephews; Adam, Tara, Gabriel, Alexandra and Phillip who she loved as if they were her own. She is also survived by her brothers in law Bruce and Mitch, her son Mitchell and his 2 children Ethan and Harper.

In accordance with her prior desires, she will be cremated, there will be no Shiva. Due to CV19 there will no group remembrance now.

In lieu of flowers or fruit baskets of any kind, if you must do something please donate to AGAPE in Jasper, a cause she believed in or to Hadassah the Mother/Child Unit.

I will rejoice in her life not mourn her passing.

To the hundreds of e-mails, texts, phone calls & cards, I offer my heartfelt THANK YOU, each in their own way is a comfort that help cope with the overwhelming grief.
