Rodney Allen Pittenger, 76, of Sun City, passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at his home with his loving wife at his side. Rod was born in Indiana on February 7, 1935 and was a resident of Indiana until he attended and graduated from General Motors Institute in Flint, MI. He also attended law school at Indiana University.He worked for General Motors for 36 years holding a variety of positions in Management in Indiana and Michigan. He retired from Chevrolet Metal Fab, in Flint, MI.Rod loved golfing, fishing, playing cards, boating and traveling in their motor home. He and Chris were married in 1992 and spent 20 wonderful years enjoying the same activities.Rod was predeceased by his parents and sister, Carolyn Coonse.He leaves behind his wife, Chrisanthy K. Pittenger, 4 children, daughter Teri (John), sons Mike (Christy), Scott (Anna), John (Andrea) and several grandchildren; step-sons Joseph Banfield (Patty) and Jeff Banfield (Michelle). He was very close to his local grandchildren, Wyatt and Cody Banfield.A celebration of his life will be held at 11am, Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at the Lowcountry Presbyterian Church, 10 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton, with a visitation beginning at 10 am until the hour of the service.The family requests any memorial donations be made to either Lowcountry Presbyterian Church, 10 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton, SC 29910 or to Hospice of the Lowcountry, PO Box 3827, Bluffton, SC 29910.
