Roger Francis Meyer

April 16, 1936 — July 10, 2016

Roger F. Meyer of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2016, on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina at the age of 80.

He was born in Melrose, Minnesota, in 1936, one of 11 children of the late George and Hilda Meyer. After enlisting in the US Army for 2 years, Roger attended the University of Minnesota and graduated with a degree in accounting in 1963. He started his professional career as a CPA with Dolan & Riddiford in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He joined Price Waterhouse in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1966 where he specialized in tax services for over a decade. In 1977 Roger moved to Laurel Assets Group, a private family office in Pittsburgh, where he held the position of CEO and President at the time of his retirement in 2004. He continued to serve as a director of the Laurel Foundation until his transition to Director Emeritus in 2011.

A lifelong avid golfer, Roger was a former President and member of the Board of Governors of St. Clair Country Club in Pittsburgh. He was also a part of development teams that created the award winning Colleton River, Belfair, and Berkeley Hall golf communities in the Hilton Head area.

Roger was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sarah; his daughter Deborah (Harrington), son-in-law Michael and granddaughters Courtney and Caitlin; and Tamara (McHugh), son-in-law Sean and grandson Connor. He is also survived by 6 of his 11 siblings: Bernard (Jane), Cletus, Mary (Bill Kobilka), Judith (Dick Trombley), Jane (Jack Ditmore), all of Minnesota, and Gordon, of Florida, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh on Saturday, July 30, 2016, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Presbyterian SeniorCare Foundation, 1215 Hulton Road, Oakmont, PA 15139, (www.srcare.org).
