Bluffton

Ronald Mitrook, U.S. Army (Ret.), passed away peacefully on September 15, 2024 in Bluffton, South Carolina, at the age of 84. Born on May 21, 1940, in Portsmouth, NH, to Russell Mitrook and Margaret Gertrude Caswell, Ronald lived a full life of service, love, and adventure.

A decorated Vietnam veteran and recipient of the Bronze Star, Ron spent 25 years in the U.S. Army. His commitment to his country was unwavering, and he earned the respect and admiration of his peers throughout his military career.

Ron was married to the love of his life, Ursula, for 60 wonderful years. Together, they built a beautiful family, creating a legacy of love, laughter, and shared experiences. He is survived by his two children, Michael and Monica (Gardner), daughter in law Lindsey and son in law Lee, and his adored grandchildren: Gabby, Ava, Maggie, Kate, David, William, Matthew, and Emery.

Ron grew up with three brothers—Rusty, Rick (Noni), and Rob (Karen)—with whom he shared many fond memories. He cherished his time spent outdoors, enjoying fishing, working in his yard, and immersing himself in nature. He was a man of simple joys who valued time with family and friends above all else.

Known for his unique expressions, affectionately termed “Dadisms,” Ron had a way with words that always brought a smile to the faces of his loved ones. From referring to pizza as “Pizzer” and Publix as “Public” to lovingly calling Monica “Moniker,” his playful language will forever be cherished by those who knew him. He had a penchant for renaming places and things, like calling Lowes "Lowls" and Harris Teeter "Harris Tweeter." His humor left a lasting impression on all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Ron’s love for his family, his dedication to his country, and his zest for life will never be forgotten. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, courage, and an enduring sense of humor.

Ron will be laid to rest at Beaufort National Cemetery on October 4, 2024 at 11.00 a.m. Friends and family are invited to attend.
