Ronald Andrew Morrison Jr. died on Thursday morning, February 16, 2023. He was born on “Cinco de Mayo”, Tuesday, May 5, 1936, to Ronald A. and Mildred Darby Morrison in McAllen, TX. He grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio and attended Walnut Hills High School where he met the love of his life, Carolyn Maddux. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. While working at Cincinnati Milling Machine, Ron participated in the advent of computing, designing numerical control software. Later at General Electric in both Arizona and in Cincinnati, Ron led projects in graphics software, in the Information Systems Division, and the Flight Propulsion Division. Next Ron worked in bank security at TTI in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and finally in testing system software for the Patriot Missile program at Raytheon, in both Massachusetts and Huntsville, Alabama. In April of 1956 Ron married Carolyn at her family home in College Hill in Cincinnati. They are the parents of Marjorie (Edwin), Ronald III, James (Melanie), and John, loving grandparents of Pilar and Elena, Andy, Scott, Jen (Luke), Kate, and Mark, and Jay (Danielle) and Zachary, and great-grandparents of Maddox, Everett, Aubree, and Sierra.
Ron loved to sing, lending his voice “in perfect harmony” to many a church choir and musical production. He was an energetic baseball coach for his sons and loved shooting baskets and teaching his daughter and sons to “think fast” when catching a basketball. His family benefitted from his love of canoeing and boating. He taught his children to paddle a canoe, to drive a motorboat and how to pull a boat in and out of the water. He taught both his children and grandchildren to water ski and enjoy the water at the lake house in Winchester, Tennessee. He enjoyed sailing, especially various trips to Martha’s Vineyard, Cape Cod, and the Caribbean with family and friends. Ron and Carolyn were avid bridge players. They explored many a state by moving and living there and many a country by cruising. Ron learned building from his father and “brick by brick” passed on lessons and experience with construction to his children and grandchildren. Ron’s humor, exuberant energy, steadfastness, intellectual curiosity, and unconditional love of family will be dearly missed. Funeral services will be held at Sauls Funeral Home in Bluffton, SC on Monday, February 20 at 4:00 pm, with visitation with the family for one hour prior to the service. The place of interment will be Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
