Rudolph L. Mccormack

Rudolph L. McCormack, 92 a life long resident of Ridgeland SC passed away from natural causes on Saturday, June 21, 2014. He passed to glory with his family at his side. He was born August 31, 1921 to the late Judge Leland S. McCormack and Virginia Nettles McCormack. He was a Navy veteran having served his country from 1939 - 1945. He was a Chief Petty Officer and flew on the Dautless Dive bomber off the Aircraft Carrier USS Wasp (CV-7). He survived the sinking of the Wasp on September 15, 1942 during the Battle of Guadalcanal. He became Jasper County's first Public Health Officer in 1946. He pioneered many Public Health initiatives such as food service inspections, running water, septic tanks, shellfish sanitation, TB clinic and rabies control. He retired in 1975 from SCDHEC as District Director of Environmental Health Services Lowcountry Health District. He was a member of Ridgeland Advent Christian Church and served in every elected and drafted positions in the church. He was Church Elder and served communion to his church family two weeks before his passing. He was predeceased by brothers, Wickman McCormack and George McCormack and sister, Parniece Richardson. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Willie Agnes (Bill) Nix McCormack and son, Leland McCormack;a daughter, Holly McCormack; sisters, Ruth Guillory and Becky Malphrus; and a host of adoring nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A celebration of life services will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, June 24 at the Ridgeland Advent Christian Church, Ridgeland, SC. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 am until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ridgeland Advent Christian Church, P.O. Box 761, Ridgeland, SC 29936. A celebration of life services will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, June 24 at the Ridgeland Advent Christian Church, Ridgeland, SC. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 am until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ridgeland Advent Christian Church, P.O. Box 761, Ridgeland, SC 29936.
