Salvatore Vittorio Bello, age 90 of Bluffton South Carolina, formerly of Toms River, NJ and Cliffside Park, NJ, passed peacefully on February 23, 2015 surrounded by family.
Predeceased by the love of his life, his wife of 62 years, Betty and his cherished granddaughter Carly Elizabeth Hughes.
Survived by son Gary Bello and his wife Donna, daughter Judith Hancox and her husband William, daughter Irene Vouvalides and her husband Anthony. Also survived by grandson Jesse Hancox his wife Tiffany and great grand daughters Chana and Charlotte Hancox. Survived by sisters Helen Lazzaro and Olga Avella and many nieces and nephews who cherished their Uncle Sal.
Salvatore served in the Army Air Corps during WWII, flying 51 missions as a radio operator in a B-17. Many of those missions were flown over some of the most heavily defended targets in Europe. Most recently Salvatore was involved in the restoration of the B-17 at the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum in Savannah, Georgia and as a volunteer at the local USO.
