Sam L. €Œbuddy” Crockett

Sam L. "Buddy" Crockett, age 81, of Bluffton, SC and formerly of Bristol, VA died Saturday, June 6, 2015 at Bloom at Belfair. Buddy was born on March 2, 1934 in Chilhowie, VA, the son of the late Samuel Baker Crockett and Gladys Merrihue Crockett. He was a 1955 graduate of Emory and Henry College where he served as President of the Student Body. He also served as a member of the Collegians Male Chorus. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in France. His career began in Bristol, VA, working with Dominion National Bank. He later worked as the Deputy Commissioner of Revenue under Walter Conley. He was a loyal Democrat and worked in Washington, D.C. with Congressman W. Pat Jennings, Sr. After working in Washington, he worked as a Management Consultant for SESCO until he was called to be the Personnel Director of Bristol Steel. Following the closing of Bristol Steel, he worked as a Business Consultant for the state of Virginia. He was a member of State Street United Methodist Church where he served in the choir and was president of the Fidelis Sunday School Class. He served on the Bristol, VA City Council; was a member and past president of The Bristol Ballet Company; and was a member and past chairman of the Democratic Party in Bristol, VA. Buddy is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Sally Allen Crockett; daughters, Suzanne Crockett Hauschner of Massies Mill, VA and Kathleen Crockett Archer (Shannon) of Bluffton, SC; grandson, Robin Hauschner; granddaughters, Maddy and Claire Archer; stepmother, Margaret Jane Crockett; half-brother, Samuel B. Crockett, Jr., both of Nashville, TN; and several special nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, June 11, 2015 at State Street United Methodist Church, 300 W. Valley Drive, Bristol, VA 24201. The family will be receiving friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service and after the service as well. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, June 11, 2015 at State Street United Methodist Church, 300 W. Valley Drive, Bristol, VA 24201. The family will be receiving friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service and after the service as well.
